Booktalk: Fortune’s Folly by Deva Fagan
by Deva Fagan
When her father loses his shoemaking business, Fortunata joins a traveling band of performers as a fortune teller. Though her act is all smoke and mirrors, Fortunata must make her latest outlandish fortune come true for a prince or lose her father forever.
Tips:
-
Fagan is great with magical settings and strong characters. This novel is no exception. There is a strong sense of fairy tale magic and enchantment in everythign they encounter.
-
This is a classic “finding one’s strength” novel and Fortunata does just that. Along the way, she must confront her own weaknesses and those of the people around her to find her way.
-
There is an element of romance in the story, but it works alongside her journey in a satisfying way that will please most readers.
