Artemis Fowl: The Graphic Novel

by Eoin Colfer and Andrew Donkin

The last in the line of an empire of criminal masterminds, Artemis is determined to bring his family back to their former glory.  His plan?  Kidnap a fairy and hold her for ransom.  The problem? She’s a feisty little devil and there is a team of highly trained trolls, dwarves and fairies ready to go to war to get her back.  Find out if this super genius can outwit the entire fairy realm in the first installment of the series, now in graphic novel format.

Tips:

  • I found that the teens responded best when I focused on the evil genius aspect.  Plus, I love that about these books. =)
  • The illustrations are gorgeous and Artemis is fun for boys and girls equally.
  • These books are hilarious.  Go with it.  Be cheesy.  At one point, I think I actually even did the “exccelllent” finger drum to express his evil genius.  Did the kids laugh at me?  You bet. But at least they were paying attention.
  • The graphic novel format is a good way to draw readers into the series.
