The Eternal Tomb (Oliver Nocturne Book 5)
Following Bane’s demise, Oliver is feeling conflicted and more tense than ever. It seems that more complications stand between him and the prophecy. While Phlox and Sebastian are grieving quietly, Oliver is ready for open conversation, especially if it can help him learn more about the prophecy, Bane, and the steps to come. Oliver has retrieved two of Bane’s charms, but he still does not know what they mean, until he stumbles upon a summoning charm that brings the apparition to him. When Half-Light nearly catches him with the apparition, Jeannette comes to the rescue and Oliver begins to piece together some of Bane’s efforts to thwart the prophecy. Oliver, Dean, and Emalie attempt another portal into the night Oliver was sired, and they learn that Dead Desiree worked with the Brotherhood of the Fallen to save Oliver’s human parents. When Desiree confronts them in the portal, however, all three begin to wonder how much they can trust her. The identity of the apparition is also revealed, and Oliver is finally shown how to find his parents. With the Anointment approaching, Oliver, Dean, Emalie and Aunt Kathleen begin the journey to reunite Oliver with his family and thwart the prophecy. However their trip is postponed when a new Chosen One is exposed and Lythia finally shows her hand. Oliver and Emalie must come up with a plan fast if they hope to prevent the Anointment. Emalie’s daring plan puts Oliver on edge, but ultimately, they two find themselves in the right place to destroy the artifact before the ceremony can take place. As the drama unfolds, however, the two find themselves with unlikely allies, facing an unknown threat, and over their heads with more complications. Can they prevent the Anointment and stop Half-Light’s plans to open the Nexia Gate? Or are there too many factions involved?
Wow! Complications abound! Emalie’s powers have developed way beyond anything explained by basic Orani skills, and her behavior has become increasingly erratic and daring. When Oliver and Dean learn that she has been going into the Underground and making deals for equipment and supplies she needs, they are concerned for her safety. As the parents of all three of the teens come together for the first time, their concerns and behaviors are realistic and complicated enough to add to the story. Readers of the series will enjoy the many twists and turns in this volume. Every chapter has a new development, many of which rock everything the reader knows about the series. This book will leave readers desperate to see what will come next.
